Chesterman Beach is the second most popular beach on the Pacific Rim after Long Beach. While Long Beach is the most popular tourist destination, Chesterman Beach is where the locals like to go. Surfing, kayaking, bird watching, people watching, dog walking, sea life exploring, picnicking, sand castle building, beach fires to 11:00 PM, reflecting, and napping are all popular activities.
The advantages of going to Chesterman Beach is that it is only a five minute drive from Downtown Tofino. Ringing Chesterman Beach are a few small islands that break up the waves a bit before they hit the beach, making it not so intimidating place to surf, kayak and swim. This is a great place to learn how to surf, the waves are often perfect for the beginner surfer. Check the Surf Report to see what you can expect. These little islands are perfect places to explore. Kids love to explore for sea life washed up on the beach or on Frank Island, accessible at low tide. The hard-packed sand of Chesterman Beach is perfect for jogging, walking or making impressive sand castles. Dogs love walking down Chesterman beach.
Chesterman Beach is also not in the park, so you do not have to pay for parking.
